French Bread |
Ingredients
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 1/2 to 2 cups warm water (115 degrees Fahrenheit)
4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour, plus more for kneading
2 teaspoons salt
Directions
In a big bowl, put the 1 1/2 cups warm water and add the yeast and the flour. Knead for 10 minutes or more until smooth.
Put in a bowl and cover with a wet kitchen towel and let rise for 1 hour. Add the salt and knead for another 5 minutes and form into a log about 3" wide X 12" long. Cover with a kitchen towel and let rise for 30 minutes in a warm place.
Bake in a preheated oven 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 17 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
